KPB opened its first doors in 1987 in Norwalk, CA as the original “Kung Pao Bowl”. Having worked in the restaurant industry since 1974, owner and founder John Lin decided it was finally time to open his own restaurant. With the help of his wife, May, who left her job as an accountant in Corporate America, they scraped together their savings and introduced Kung Pao Bowl to the world. Ever the visionary and entrepreneur, John’s dream was to provide customers with healthy, fast, and affordable authentic Chinese food. Word spread quickly around Norwalk and soon customers were lining up outside their small storefront for affordable and delicious rice bowls. None was more famous than the Kung Pao chicken bowl, still their signature dish. With the success of their first restaurant, John and May felt ready to take the next step to expand their business. A second Kung Pao Bowl was opened in Fullerton, CA in 1997, followed by one in Santa Fe Springs, CA in 1999 and then Huntington Beach, CA in 2003.
In September 2012, John and May launched KPB Asian Bistro, a modern spin off of the original Kung Pao Bowl. With an updated menu and contemporary style, KPB Asian Bistro still offers all the original mouth-watering classics while introducing occasional innovative Chef’s Specials. And of course only the freshest ingredients are used, with all orders cooked on the spot.
